Stuart completed several tours in Northern Ireland, as well as seeing active service in the Gulf War in 1991 and the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Awarded the OBE for work in the MOD on a major transformation project in 2005, he commanded the 3 PARA and led the first UK battle group sent to southern Afghanistan in 2006. He was awarded a DSO as an intended peace support mission turned into an unprecedented level of combat.
Holding MD leadership positions in Barclays since 2008, in 2019, he became a founding partner of Matero Consulting, which leverages military mission-leadership, empowered purpose, and devolved decision-making for the benefit of business change agendas.
Engaged by over fifty FTSE/Fortune companies as a leadership keynote speaker, Stuart is also a part-time author. His first book, Danger Close – Leading 3 PARA in Afghanistan became a Sunday Times Best Seller and his fourth book, about the SAS in the Falklands entered the best seller lists in July 2021.
