Message from TMA UK President
I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas break and are refreshed and raring to go as we enter this new decade.
Last year we had a record breaking year, with more events than ever before and a great level of support from members and sponsors alike. We ended the year with another excellent conference and are already starting the planning for 2020 (save the date; 19th November). Not wanting to rest on our laurels we are looking forward to delivering an equally strong programme of events for 2020. Many events are already up on the website and do look out for future announcements about events near you.
We have a great network of committees delivering events across the country and will once again be running a regional conference (save the date, 11th June) to underline our commitment to ensure that TMA reaches all parts of the turnaround community in this country. Yes London is still the centre for a lot of our members, but the regional offering has become increasingly active and we are keen to continue to build on this in the coming year. In particular the NextGen committees around the regions have been very active and it is great to see that we have such a good pipeline of future members looking to become involved with TMA.
It is of course difficult to predict what 2020 will bring for the Turnaround industry, but it is clear that many business sectors are experiencing substantial challenges be that from changing consumer habits to technological advances. In addition the impact of what now looks to be an actual withdrawal from the EU at the end of 2020 and the negotiations that will need to be conducted through the course of the year will need to be followed closely and evaluated. At the TMA we are focused on ensuring that the skills and capabilities of our members are proclaimed to the wider world and whilst we lack the resources to be lobbying parliament on a regular basis, we will seek to ensure that our voice is heard whenever the opportunity arises.
We are part of a global network and I would encourage you to remember this when researching overseas opportunities. The global website contains a wealth of information and contacts and can be a valuable guide for members. Please do use it!
I would make one plea to you all; a lot of effort goes into finding speakers, venues and sponsors for events. Please do make every effort to show up. We do appreciate that work can sometimes get in the way of Business Development. However, you may miss that conversation that leads to a new piece of work or other opportunity. – You never know when it’s going to prove beneficial!
Wishing you, your family and your colleagues a very happy and prosperous New Year.
Peter Stevens - TMA UK President
