Spotlight on Operational Turnaround with a focus on the Retail Sector
The WBD Restructuring and Insolvency team will take you through a working group session based on a recent high profile engagement in the retail sector which involved the management of a number of different stakeholder interests and workstreams. WBD hope to be joined by a group CEO that has been through this process over a 12 month period – details to follow.
The session will provide a background scenario with break out "teams" to cover different stakeholder interests and how these interact with the day-to-day issues including difficulties that can be faced in an operational turnaround situation and the pressures that are encountered.
We hope this will encourage group discussion and highlight the competing interests that invariably fall on the board to consider and prioritise, together with unique insights and perspectives on a variety of turnaround challenges arising from WBD's recent engagement.

About the speakers

Andy is UK Head of the Finance Group at WBD. He specialises in advising boards of distressed companies on their options and risks and how best to implement turnaround strategies. Andy also advises a variety of other stakeholders connected to distressed businesses including financial institutions and investors and works alongside other professional advisors in implementing restructuring solutions.
He has extensive experience within the retail sector and energy sector and in relation to the latter acted for 13 of the failed domestic energy suppliers and their administrators during 2021-22 period.

Laura is a Managing Associate in the R&I team at WBD. Laura specialises in non-contentious matters, advising a variety of key stakeholders in restructuring and turnaround scenarios. Laura's client's including insolvency practitioners, creditors, companies and directors. Laura has particular experience within the retail sector and has spent a significant part of the last 18 months working on retail based mandates.
