Mentoring Services

TMA UK are delighted to announce a unique member benefit; a mentoring service delivered by members for members.

This service will be delivered by experienced restructuring professionals who are TMA members wanting to pass on their experience and advice to those developing their careers in our community. Mentoring is about guidance, advice and given to aid the growth and development of fellow professionals.

If you would like to become a MENTOR or a MENTEE please express your interest to Kelly [email protected] at TMA UK.

Gregg Parkin Mentee - “I have been mentored for the past 12 months or so by Rebecca Walker at Lester Aldridge. The advice and guidance that I have received in those 12 months from Rebecca has been invaluable. The experience that Rebecca has through treading the same path that I am now treading is enormous and I am grateful for the opportunity that the TMA has provided to me to benefit from Rebecca’s expertise and experience gleaned over many years as a successful practitioner. I would encourage anybody in my position (or similar) to take advantage of the mentoring scheme, which really has many, many benefits.”

Paul Davies Mentor – “When the opportunity arose to join the TMA mentoring system, I jumped at the chance to become a mentor. It is a pleasure to pass on my experience to a new TMA member and help guide them through the profession where I can, offering advice and counsel where requested. It is extremely rewarding to know you have had some involvement when your mentee is doing well and moving their career forward. I would urge anyone seeking to be either a mentor or looking for a mentor in the profession to contact the TMA and get paired up”

Philip Smith Mentor - It’s been very humbling to pass on lessons from my own experience and to give guidance and advice to my mentee. They are now thinking about how to shape their career to play to their strengths and what interests and motivates them. We have some short-term goals and are developing medium-term objectives. Mentoring is not a short-term assignment and we have agreed how to ensure we have regular touch points. It’s also not a one-way street and I am getting some interesting insights into the world of the next generation. This is a very rewarding way to give back to the community and it is not that time intensive”

Anonymous Mentee “The TMA’s Mentoring Scheme has been invaluable. It has afforded the opportunity to engage with a world leading Chief Restructuring Officer on a regular basis in a context that enables open and honest dialogue. The guidance that my mentor has shared is drawn from over 20 years of international experience. Given the practical nature of the turnaround sector these insights have proven truly invaluable. Overall, the TMA’s Mentoring Scheme has been extremely beneficial and I would encourage anyone considering applying to do so.

Tyrone Courtman Mentor - “I have been delighted to participate as a Mentor in support of TMA’s Mentoring service, a unique benefit delivered by members for members.

I have been involved in turnaround and restructuring for over 35 years and have seen a lot of what not to do from a personal progression and development perspective. I’ve also seen and experienced a lot of what to do to achieve personal development and standing and achieve modest success in the turnaround and restructuring business. I have been very fortunate to work with some truly inspiring practitioners and leaders in turnaround and restructuring.

For me, it’s about making a positive difference and putting something back into the business, hopefully with a view to aiding those embarking on their restructuring careers, at whatever time in their lives that turnaround and restructuring pulls them in, to help them make choices that are right for them and in helping them meet their personal aspirations.

I have found the experience very fulfilling, emotionally rewarding and massively uplifting. I hope my Mentee’s have too! And if in the process my Mentee’s take away only a part of what I am able to share about my experience, and put it to good effect, then I know I will sleep more easily in the knowledge that I have put something back, done the right thing and, I hope made a positive difference to the development of their career’s and the industry more widely.

I can highly recommend it to both prospective Mentor’s and Mentee’s alike! “

Soroush Saadat MenteeRecently, I had the privilege of meeting with Adrian Doble and Konstantinos Liverakos, whose guidance and expertise have been instrumental in deepening my understanding of turnaround and related concepts. Their valuable insights not only broadened my knowledge but also provided me with a fresh perspective, enabling me to refine my approach to my PhD research question in a more practical manner.

I am genuinely appreciative of the continuous support and kindness they have extended to me throughout our interactions. Their willingness to share their time and knowledge exemplifies the spirit of mentorship that makes this program so enriching."

Anonymous Mentor - “The TMA UK mentoring scheme has been an excellent experience for me to meet others in the industry. As someone who came from a different background prior to working in restructuring, it has been a pleasure mentoring and listening to the experiences of others who have only just received industry exposure. I am confident that the scheme will allow me to form long-lasting connections and I plan to continue being an active member.”

Anonymous Mentor -I decided to apply for the TMA mentoring scheme when I saw it advertised as I am at a pivotal moment in my career and felt I could use some guidance.

Whilst I joined recently and have therefore only had a couple of sessions with my mentor, I have found it very helpful to discuss work and career with someone who can bring an outside perspective as well as years of expertise. This has been particularly insightful as I have spent most of my career in one place. It is great to know that my mentor’s agenda is to support me rather than the organisation I work for so I can be confident that the advice I receive is genuine and tailored to my specific requirements.

The application process itself was very straightforward and I was quickly matched up with someone who fit the criteria of what I was looking for in a mentor.”
